Biography

Allen Counter was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA.

In 1986, Dr. Counter traveled to northern Greenland on a scientific mission and found the eighty year-old sons of North Pole discoverers Rear Admiral Robert Peary and Matthew A. Henson. The sons' mothers were Polar Eskimo women who met the discoverers during their 1906 expedition. Dr. Counter brought Anaukaq Henson and Kali Peary, and twelve members of their families, to the United States on May 29, 1987. The sons laid wreathes on their fathers' grave-sites.

In 2004, appointed Consul General of Sweden in Boston and New England by King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and the Swedish Ambassador to the U.S.

Earned the Doctor of Medical Science (D.M.Sc.) degree from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

In 1989, he was the recipient of the NAACP Image Award.

Explorer, ethnographer, Director of The Harvard Foundation of Harvard University, and Neurophysiologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
