Monster Makeup FX co-Founder & Lead Makeup Artist "Monster" Midian Crosby is a female practical special effects makeup studio owner and artist for cinema & media. Having lent her talents to over 75 feature films, television and commercial media projects, "Monster" Midian has developed a solid reputation for creativity, professionalism, and excellence in her craft.

"Monster" Midian Crosby was born and raised at the foot of the sentinel Colorado Rocky Mountains in a town called Boulder. Starting when Midian was only a few months old her journey as a world-traveler began. Little Midian would accompany her parents, Cliff & Cheryl, to Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica while she was still a toddler and when Midian was 4 years old the little family moved briefly to India.

Throughout the rest of her childhood and adolescence Midian would become intimately acquainted with Asian countries such as Thailand, Mongolia, and Cambodia before returning to the United States to attend September High School, a private alternative art school in Boulder, CO. During her time at September School, Midian would excel in sculpture, photography, and music and would spend her junior year living with a family friend and attending Tweed River High School in New South Wales, Australia.

Motion pictures and particularly "monster movies" are a decidedly worldwide phenomenon and the lure of dark on-screen fairy tales, as well of the influence of Clive Barker and his novella "Cabal", proved to be inescapable for the young woman who would eventually become "Monster" Midian.

Fascinated by film production and encouraged by her older brother Shawn, a horror aficionado in his own right, Midian began her pursuit of Special FX makeup training at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, earning a degree in Industrial Design specializing in special effects.

The young "Monster" Midian's tremendous work ethic and SPFX expertise would prove to be crucial components to early work at haunted houses.

Almost immediately, Midian was hired by Specter Studios, a Halloween costume and mask manufacturer based in Pittsburgh. Midian's well-developed abilities to multi-task and work confidently while under pressure would serve her well while at Specter and she fulfilled a variety of FX and non-FX roles for the company. In addition to designing, prototyping, and manufacturing FX masks, wings, clothing, and props for Specter Studios, Midian also spearheaded their website design and development, online marketing, and graphic design departments. While working at Specter Studios Midian also started her film career and worked on several feature films.

Shortly after her return to Colorado she would meet and marry her husband Joshua. Together they began to take steps toward creating the foundations for what would become Monster Makeup FX, established in 2010. Joshua is now COO of Monster Makeup FX and a blood effects expert and specialty costumer working side by side with Midian on film and media. They spent 2017-early 2019 traveling full time in their 37ft class A toy hauler mobile home with studio for on-location productions nationwide.

Midian is a makeup and special effects makeup department head, hair stylist and costume designer who has now begun producing and directing projects of her own.
