Brazilian filmmaker based in Rio de Janeiro, working between direction and assistant direction. His films explore social and cosmic horror as a lens on power, violence and collective trauma. Directed Favela Amarela (2026), Olho Ruim (2023) and Inseto (2021), screened at international festivals.
Graduated with honors in Visual Arts and Audiovisual Production, Nícolas Lobato is a Brazilian filmmaker based in Rio de Janeiro. In 2017, he received a full scholarship to study cinema at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, in Buenos Aires, where he lived for 14 months developing personal projects.
He has worked at TECNA - Centro Tecnológico de Produção Audiovisual do RS and contributed to the production and programming of major Brazilian festivals, including the Gramado Film Festival, Kino Fórum and Cine Esquema Novo.
His films have been screened at festivals and cultural institutions such as Fantaspoa, IMS São Paulo and Cine Botafogo. His latest short, Favela Amarela (2026), produced with public funding, expands his exploration of social and cosmic horror and is currently being developed into a series.
Nícolas is the founder of Larva Filmes, a production company focused on genre cinema, with projects filmed across Brazil. His work is available on platforms such as MUBI, DarkFlix and Box Brazil.
