  • Sean Slimak is an American filmmaker, writer, director, and producer based in the Chicago area and the founder of Northern Pines Pictures. He made his directorial debut with the short film Connection at the End of the World (2025), a science-fiction romantic drama starring Alaina Wis and Joelle Velez and conceived largely as a single uninterrupted take. The film received the Audience Award at the Shortcut100 International Film Fest, while Wis and Velez received Best Acting Duo at the Independent Shorts Awards; the film also earned a Best Romantic Comedy Short nomination at Indie Short Fest, a Cinema & Photography Awards nomination, and selections at additional international film competitions. Slimak followed the film with Volatile, a post-apocalyptic horror short starring Alaina Wis, Samuel James Howard, Christina Bennett, and Manda Cotts, and later directed the horror short Intruder, starring Nicole McKavis, Samuel James Howard, and David Kreydich. Another short he shot in one-continuous take. In addition to writing and directing his own films, Slimak has worked across independent productions as a producer, assistant director, and production crew member, with producing credits including Welcome to the Game: ClintsChapter, Grind, and Frenzy Moon.
