Arian Salarian is a first-generation immigrant and filmmaker based in Montreal whose work is driven by a deep interest in themes of identity, displacement and belonging.
With a background in sociology, Arian brings a critical lens to his storytelling. His films often explore the silent distances between people, the unspoken longing for intimacy, and the subtle ways we seek connection in an increasingly fragmented world. He is particularly drawn to stories that reflect class struggle, marginalization, and the evolving human experience in times of rapid social change.
Arian's last short The Sentenced (2023) was a semi-finalist at Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival, and official selection at Buenos Aires International Film Festival and Waterford International Film Festival. His latest short, Novice (2025), had its international premiere at TIFF Cinematheque in July 2025 as a part of the year-round MDFF screenings.
