  • JJ Hickey is an American film director, writer, and actor. He was born and raised in New York's Hudson Valley, where he returns each year to teach filmmaking at Camp Scatico, a children's sleep-away camp that was founded by basketball legend Nat Holman in 1921 and was the site of Camp MTV (1989). He has worked nationally in New York and Los Angeles, and internationally at London's Royal National Theater. He trained as a director at Columbia University and as a producer at the Yale School of Drama. While at Yale he served at the Managing Director of the Yale Cabaret, where he produced 24 new plays and musicals. Dedicated to develop emerging talent he continued this mission in NYC at the WPA Theater, La MaMa ETC, Primary Stages, and the American Place Theater, where he developed incisive American comedies for Norman Lear and Wynn Handman. In Los Angeles he wrote and directed for two sketch comedy troupes, No Shame Theater and Fries on the Side, and produced projects for Instant Films. He also was one of the writers, directors, and producers of FIN48, a feature film in 48 hours. In television JJ shadowed James Burrows on "Will & Grace," Joe Russo on "Arrested Development," Lee Shallet Chemel on "Kristin," Pamela Fryman on "Just Shoot Me," David Trainer on "That 70s Show," Ted Wass on "Spin City," James Widdoes on "Some of My Best Friends," Terry Hughes on 3rd Rock From The Sun," Barnet Kellman on "For Your Love," Andy Cadiff on "They Geena Davis Show," and Michael Lembec on "The Steven Weber Show." His films have been shown at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival and the New York Short Film Festival.
