MARSHALL TYLER is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker and television director recognized for his nuanced and layered storytelling. His lyrical, culturally-relevant short films-Night Shift, Cap, and Slow Pulse-have premiered at Sundance, Tribeca, and the American Black Film Festival, where he won the HBO Short Film Competition. Skid Row, his unflinching first-person documentary about homelessness, followed Grammy award-winning Pras Michel from Fugees fame as he lived undercover for nine straight days as an unhoused person on the streets of Los Angeles. Working in the episodic space, Marshall has directed one-hour dramas on hit series 9-1-1 (FOX), City on A Hill (Showtime), Leverage: Redemption (Amazon), and most recently on the suspense-driven dark comedy Average Joe (BET+/Netflix). Marshall is an alumnus of the ABC/Disney Directing Program, the Ryan Murphy HALF Initiative, and is one of three fellows selected for the highly competitive 2024 Apple Studios Directors Program--an immersive initiative designed to promote premiere mid-career directors within the Apple TV+ universe. Currently, Marshall is advancing several high-profile projects, including his narrative feature debut, the psychological drama, Fever Dream. He is also partnering with Vogue/Condé Nast Entertainment and Robert De Niro's Tribeca Productions for his upcoming feature documentary The Prince of 7th Avenue, which explores the life of legendary designer Willi Smith and his groundbreaking 80s New York streetwear label, WilliWear.
