Writer and voice actor Steven James Scearce is a Kansas City native who has always considered himself a writer first. He began crafting short stories at an early age, demonstrating a natural talent for storytelling. During middle and high school, Steven developed a passion for theater and improv, actively participating in school productions and events.
In his university years, Steven worked as a music journalist, feature writer, and assistant editor for a Midwestern music and arts magazine. Post-college, he shifted his focus from music journalism to writing short horror and science fiction stories, which have been featured in numerous anthologies.
In 2009, Steven embarked on a collaborative writing project with his brother Andy Scearce, creating the science fiction and horror blog-fiction series "Station 151." This project, along with its companion series "Unknown Transmission," ran for two years and garnered thousands of fans across the United States, Canada, and the UK. During this period, Steven also studied screenwriting, worked on a full-length novel, and earned a living as a ghostwriter.
In early 2022, long-time friend and collaborator Bear Weiter proposed adapting the "Station 151" and "Unknown Transmission" series into an audio drama podcast. Though initially hesitant, Steven agreed to the project, ensuring that his brother Andy was also involved.
"Station 151," produced by Pale Matter, marks Steven's debut in the world of audio dramas. As an indie production, Steven wore many hats, including voice actor for all the main characters, co-creator, contributing writer, production assistant, director, show-runner, casting director, and Foley artist. His digital marketing expertise was instrumental in promoting the show during fund-raising and in the lead-up to the premiere of Season 1, contributing significantly to its early success.
Steven's enthusiasm for creating, managing, producing, and promoting audio dramas continues to this day. He has guest-starred as a voice actor and writer on various other audio drama podcasts and looks forward to future opportunities. He deeply values the connections he's made within the podcast community and is proud to have created opportunities for these connections to be part of his own productions.
Steven lives in Olathe, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, in a home he shares with his wife, who has graciously allowed him to build a recording studio in their master bedroom closet.
