- Vice President of Optical Engineering at Panavision. He has worked at the company since the age of 19 in 1986, having been brought in by his father Ralph, who retired as Vice President of Operations in 2008. In 2007 Dan left the company to pursue other interests, but returned in 2009.

- Updating the C-Series anamorphic lenses for Jan de Bont on The Hunt for Red October (1990).
- Creating the 60mm C-Series anamorphic lens for László Kovács on Multiplicity (1996).
- Removing the coatings from the Super Speed and Ultra Speed lenses, increasing flares and aberrations and giving them a stronger vintage look, for Janusz Kaminski on Saving Private Ryan (1998).
- Creating the 20mm C-Series anamorphic lens for John Schwartzman on Pearl Harbor (2001).
- Modifying a vintage 43mm Pathé lens for Robert Elswit on There Will Be Blood (2007).
- Reviving the B-Series anamorphic lens series, rarely used since the 1960s, for Bill Pope on The World's End (2013).
- Creating custom IMAX lenses for Hoyte van Hoytema on Interstellar (2014) and Dunkirk (2017).
- Creating the "Retro C-Series" anamorphic lens series for Dan Mindel on Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015).
- Designing the Primo 70 lens series, made for use on large-format digital camera systems.
- Reviving the Ultra Panavision 70 anamorphic lens series, last used on Khartoum (1966), for Robert Richardson on The Hateful Eight (2015).
- Associate member of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) since 2014.
