Ahisha Ghafoor

Ahisha Ghafoor is a BAFTA award-winning filmmaker, producer, polyglot, and she also writes. Her background is in journalism. She's worked on character-led feature documentaries, current affairs, investigative and retrospective films, some in hostile environments.
In 2025, she won her first BAFTA award for producing State of Rage, an urgent and unique portrayal of life in the West Bank, told through the perspective of children: Palestinian Refugees and Jewish Settlers. One review from The Guardian quoted: 'Every minute of this documentary has a quote to stop the heart.' The film won two BAFTA awards for Best Current Affairs and Best Factual Photography, the New York Times Social Justice Award, and it was nominated for a Grimme Preis and Rose D’or award.
Her experience is multifaceted and ranges from collaborating with indies, and award-winning directors. She also spent a great deal of her career at the BBC, and working in international development, and the charity sector.
She has excellent access skills and has worked with Asian, Middle Eastern, North African, and Orthodox Jewish communities. She has also started writing a script [drama] where factual and scripted content intersect.
Her films have had theatrical releases and have been broadcast on several broadcasting channels: BBC, PBS Frontline, Channel 4, ITV, Channel 5, Arte, Movistar and ZDF.
Ahisha is an NCTJ-qualified journalist and studied Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies at University, she is currently based in London.
