Biography

Actress April Armstrong was born in Detroit, Michigan. Her parents Maggie Morris and Frank Armstrong moved to Harlem, New York while she was an infant. After graduating from high school, April attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA and Manhattan School of Music in NYC, where she majored in Voice and studied with renown Mezzo-Soprano Helen Vanni. April continued her education by earning a MA in Music Education at Teacher College, Columbia University.

April's first New York theater showcase was for the York Theater Company's revival of Lost in the Stars starring veteran actor, George Merritt, where she played "Irina." She went on to work Off Broadway with noted creatives and directors such as George Wolfe, Ping Chong, Lawrence Sacharow, Joanne Akalaitus, Tom O'Horgan, Mark Wing Davey, and Eve Ensler. Her most recent production was playing former President Jimmy Carter in Susan Lambert Hatem's NY premiere of Confidence and the Speech.

April has performed in two Broadway National Tours; "Ragtime" and "Carousel." She has worked at regional theaters around the country including The Guthrie and A.R.T.

April's sang the closing theme in the film "Washington Square" and has played a recurring Reporter in "Law & Order: SVU." She has done numerous short films and web-series including Alexander Etseyatse's, "4-1-9."
