Richard worked as an elementary school janitor when he auditioned for Season 19 of "America's Got Talent". After winning the show, Richard filmed a TV commercial for Amazon, playing a theater janitor discovered singing "What the World Needs Now (is Love)" while working. The commercial is reminiscent of his actual story.
