Biography

David Robitaille is a Canadian film director & producer and a voting member of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, bridging between Montreal and the Hollywood market. Growing up, he quickly developed a strong passion for storytelling, spending his days playing with LEGOs in the corner of his bedroom and eventually using few of his builds to create a stop-motion film for Apple Camp. As a teenager, David briefly explored graphic design and music before securing a talent agent to debut what he thought would turn his high school drama classes & improv into an acting career.

At the age of 19 years old, David secured the mentorship and ongoing advisory of veteran DGA 1st AD Richard Graves, known for having worked on major Hollywood tentpoles such as The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), after both being involved in the production of Sony's Karate Kid: Legends (2025) and constantly crossing paths on set. David later secured the ongoing provision of MTL Grandé Studios, who had just hosted the Sony production, as he entered pre-production for Trajectoire (2025).

His brand being focused on authenticity and union-compliance, David's directing style is often specifically described as a blend between his actor and producer personas, meaning he views both performance and production infrastructure as essential & thrives to create safe environments for his cast and crew to operate efficiently. While he is a serious and hard-working entrepreneur, Robitaille's personal values are influenced by his Christian faith and a heart that is often both compassionate & forgiving. He is often described by others in the industry as being at least five to ten years older than his actual age in terms of directorial demeanor and holding the business maturity of a seasoned executive.

As David Robitaille turned 21 years old, he produced and directed a proof-of-scale short, in a 1950s West Hollywood vintage bar-lounge setting, leading a cast & crew of 30 souls, indoors in Montreal, while simultaneously complying with ACTRA, IATSE and the Director's Guild of Canada via micro-budget agreements, in order to prove his ability to direct departmentalized film sets despite his young age. He is now focused on developing IP and screenplays to direct for American production entities, persistently evoking his motivation to shoot films in LA and bring post-production back to Montreal.
