His performance as Coco in the landmark stage production De La Noche earned him dual nominations from El Universal for Best Upcoming New Actor and from the National Theatre Critics Association announcing a talent that critics on both sides of the border immediately recognized as something different. The theater community took notice. Hollywood would follow after Jimenez gained national recognition as the face of "El Pasante de Ingeniero" in Mexico’s "Solidaridad" television campaign; four commercials over four years earned him a nomination for ‘Breakthrough Actor’ at the Teleguía Awards.

The breakthrough on screen came with Hasta Morir, opposite Demián Bichir a film that went on to win both the Ariel Award (Mexico's equivalent of the Oscar) and the Audience Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Jimenez's portrayal of Ernesto, the film's antagonist, announced a performer comfortable in moral complexity, unafraid of shadow. The performance earned him an exclusive six-year contract with Televisa, Latin America's most powerful network and set a trajectory that would carry him north where he received a full ride scholarship to attend the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in NYC and he also completed graduated studies in Dramatic Writing at NYU; Tisch.
Director Bruce Beresford the Academy Award-nominated filmmaker behind Driving Miss Daisy cast Jimenez as Antonio Banderas' brother in the HBO international feature And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself. Director Ted Demme cast him in Blow alongside Johnny Depp. He appeared in The Crow: Wicked Prayer opposite Danny Trejo and anchored the lead role in the NBC/Telemundo pilot Placas as Zenaido a series broadcast across the United States and Mexico. His lead in Exile from the Sun earned the film Best Short Film at the Canadian Film Festival. Back in the U.S. his lead performance in The Gun Man, an innovative short filmed in a single unbroken take by DP Eric Edwards (Knocked Up) Most recently, he joined the DC universe as Tío Chema in the feature Blue Beetle.

Handpicked from Televisa's exclusive roster of contracted actors to star under the direction of Adriana Barraza later Oscar-nominated for Babel in the exclusive production of Noche de Actores. His title role in Pedro Páramo at the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts brought him to Los Angeles, one of the most revered works in Latin American literature set the standard for bilingual theatrical productions, one week in Spanish and one week in English, spanning several months of success.
