Was a passenger on the ill-fated Crossair Flight 3597 which crashed outside of Zurich, Switzerland on November 24, 2001. Maria, her Passion Fruit bandmate Nathaly van het Ende and American singer Melanie Thornton all perished in the crash, while her Passion Fruit bandmate Debbie St. Maarten survived.
