Biography

James Hunter Bond was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico to parents Kirby Bond and Tiffany Bond. He moved to San Diego, California at the age of two where he spent the majority of is time before adulthood growing up in the suburbs of Rancho Bernardo and Poway. Hunter showed a love of photography from a young age, including running for school photographer of his fifth grade class. In High School he was introduced to Larry Gagnon, a retired newspaper photographer and his first photography instructor, who inspired him to pursue a career in photography.

Hunter studied photography in college while working as a freelance news photographer for the Poway News Chieftain and doing commercial photography for a variety of clients. While on assignment he was introduced to the owners of J!NX Clothing, a gaming lifestyle brand. Hunter eventually was hired by J!NX as their product Photographer, eventually additionally overseeing the social media and community marketing of the company. Eventually the company hired a replacement photographer, allowing Hunter to focus full time on marketing until his departure in 2015.

After J!NX, Hunter spent a handful of years as a freelance fabricator, while also continuing his marketing work as a freelance consultant. For the peripheral company Razer, he built a Cyberpunk-futurist bar set in their corporate office. For the Stone Brewery he handled a series of retail space overhauls, including a mural hanging on the wall of the Whiskey-A-Go-Go in Los Angeles.

Hunter rejoined the games industry full time as the Marketing and PR manager for Berzerk Studio, a Quebec City based game developer known for their numerous flash web games, and their smash-hit musical bullet-hell Just Shapes & Beats. In 2019 Hunter became the writer on Infernax, a retro-homage action RPG. He worked closely with the game's creative director Étienne Jean over the course of 2020 and 2021 to rewrite the game's story, dialog, and quests to accommodate the newly extended design of the previously shelved project. During this time Hunter also served as a marketing consultant and writer-for-hire on other projects. Notable during this time was his work with Xalavier Nelson Jr's development studio, Strange Scaffold. He contributed work in both marketing and writing on games such as El Paso Elsewhere, Sunshine Shuffle, Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator, and An Airport for Aliens Currently Run by Dogs.

In late 2023, while serving as narrative director on a project for the independent horror games publisher DreadXP, Hunter was asked to take over as one of two Co-Directors in charge of running the publisher alongside fellow independent game developer Brian Clarke.
