Biography

Kim C. Roberts has produced films and television for more than a decade with partner Tina Pehme, following 25 years as an entertainment attorney at the boutique law firm Roberts & Stahl. As a partner in Sepia Films, Roberts has developed, consulted and produced for both film and television in Canada, the US, India, the United Kingdom, China, South Africa, Ireland, Spain and Argentina.

Roberts has produced diverse theatrical fare such as Sugar (2022) starring Katherine McNamara, Anthem of a Teenage Prophet (2018) starring Cameron Monaghan, Peyton List and Juliette Lewis; the Canada/Argentina/Italy co-production The Games Maker which premiered at Sundance 2015 starring Joseph Fiennes, Ed Asner and David Mazouz; In Their Skin (2012), a suspense thriller starring Selma Blair, Josh Close, Rachel Miner and James D'Arcy which premiered at the 2012 Tribeca Int'l Film Festival; 2010's Canada/Ireland co-production A Shine Of Rainbows, starring Connie Nielsen and Aidan Quinn which premiered at the Toronto Int'l Film Festival and garnered multiple international awards; Partition (2007), an epic romance shot on location in India starring Jimi Mistry, Neve Campbell, Kristen Kreuk and Irrfan Khan; Civic Duty (2007), a psychological thriller which also debuted at Tribeca starring Peter Krause and Richard Schiff and Love on the Side (2004), a romantic comedy starring Marla Sokoloff, Jennifer Tilly and Barry Watson. Currently, Roberts is producing the upcoming period drama Cry From The Sea starring Dominic Cooper and Sarah Gadon.

In the documentary space, Roberts has produced theatrical documentaries The Hobby (2024) which premiered at SXSW, Keepers of the Magic (2017), The Boy From Geita (2015), which documents the perilous journey of a young Tanzanian boy with albinism that premiered at Hot Doc's and was screened as special presentation at the United Nations in New York in October 2015; Hue: A Matter Of Color (2013), directed by Vic Sarin and produced in partnership with the National Film Board of Canada, And The Beat Goes On... (2009) an insiders look at the evolution of the superstar DJ featuring David Guetta, Paul Oakenfeld and Danny Tenaglia amongst others. She also executive produced the one hour broadcast documentaries So Many Colors (2010) and A Journey of the Heart (2007).

Since 2012, Roberts and Pehme have produced a large number of TV movies, including Perfect High (2015), starring Bella Thorne, Imperfect High (2021), Cam-Girl (2024) and the multi-film thriller series "Nightmare" for Lifetime. Venturing into television series in 2024, Robert's is currently producing the second season of mystery series Murder In A Small Town starring Rossif Sutherland and Kristen Kreuk which premiered it's first season on FOX and Hulu September 24th 2024.

Kim Roberts brings over two decades of experience as an entertainment lawyer to Sepia Films, where he oversees co-productions, production financing, contract negotiations, E&O insurance and tax credits for Canadian and foreign productions, as well as all aspects of production legal. Kim is also involved in the development and production of Sepia's feature film slate, utilizing strong working relationships with financiers, cultural agencies and distributors and providing input on the slate's creative elements. Together with producing partner Tina Pehme, Roberts has produced numerous feature films, feature documentaries and more than a dozen movies for television. Roberts also executive produced the award-winning Canada/UK co-production It's All Gone Pete Tong (2004).
