Some of the more cherished roles Karen has played are The Five Female Leads in The Blue Room (David Hare), Theresa Bedell in Boy Gets Girl (Rebecca Gilman), Estelle in No Exit (Jean Paul Sartre), Rita White in Educating Rita (Willy Russell), Elicia/ Lyse/ Clarina in The Illusion (Tony Kushner), Catherine in Standing on my Knees (John Olive), Piglet in Winnie The Pooh, Debbie in Face Divided (Edward Allan Baker), Cory in Private Eyes (Steven Dietz), Valerie/Jane in Speaking in Tongues (Andrew Bovell), and Margery in Vinegar Tom (Caryl Churchill), during which she met her husband of 23 years.

Karen has produced and directed numerous theatre productions, including Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Oliver, and many musicals, including The Lion King, Aladdin, Grease and Peter Pan.

In July 2025, Karen directed and produced her first short film, Just Deserts. It was completed on January 26, 2026, and is currently being submitted to international film festivals.

She is preparing to direct her next short, The Golden Apple, a satirical prequel to Homer's Odyssey, followed by her debut narrative feature, Three Bells, about female ex cons who join an unconventional support group in east London.
