  • Ramsey Nouah was born on December 19, 1970 in Lagos, Nigeria. At 20, he was starting out as an aspiring musician prior to heeding a friend's advise to take a stab on acting. At 21, he audition and instantly won the role of Jeff in an on-coming Nigerian television soap opera, Fortunes. By the age of 23, he was seen in Fortunes (from 1993 to 1994) which was a smash hit. Captivating the viewers with his performance as Jeff (a name he is widely called in Nigeria), he instantly rose to fame and became one of the most recognised face in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

In 1996, he made his major screen movie debut in the well received Silent Night after performing in a few Nigeria home videos (now widely known as Nollywood) projects which never got released due to lack of completion funds and related issues. Succeeded by numerous Nigerian home video projects where he mainly played romantic roles, from the 1990's through the early 2000's; Nouah was quickly labelled "Lover Boy". In 2004, he starred in Dangerous Twins (2004) and his stellar performance as a good and bad twin, Taiye and Kehinde, projected him as a multi layered actor capable of much more his "Lover Boy" image had suggested. By then, his fame had transcend the shores of Nigeria and was exceeding Africa.

His face was on numerous movie posters and his performance progressively got stronger and attracted acclaim as he sold millions of Nigerian home video (which was straight to DVD) projects within lovers of African entertainment. He is an African household name that won't be forgotten for his immense contribution to the African entertainment industry at large. He has won numerous awards for his acting and contribution to the African entertainment industry in Nigeria and around the world. In 2010, he won Best Actor at the African Movie Academy Awards for his performance in The Figurine (2009).He is a one of the few active pioneers and ambassador of the laudable Nigerian movie industry also known as Nollywood. His burning desire to add to the creative growth of Nollywood and African cinema led to his founding a movie production company called Ramseyfilms.

Quotes

  • I am not Jesus and I am not here to save the world. I am just an actor.
  • [on his role model] When I started, I remember my love for Al Pacino and I used him as a yardstick in acting. If you want to show that you are a good actor, you shouldn't be stereotype. You should be versatile; you should possess the ability to play different roles. I use the Al Pacino's role in Scarface (1983), The Godfather (1972) and Scent of a Woman (1992) to show people how versatile he can be. In Scarface (1983), he has a strict gangster attitude. In The Godfather (1972), he has a mafia attitude. In Scent of a Woman (1992) it was also different. So, three different characters and they are all distinct. It was like he has the same gesture here and he has the same mannerisms there or he has the same line here or there. That's the way you can actually know someone who is a fantastic actor. He is one of my role models.
  • A whole lot of people define success as being rich and having it all. I define success as peace of mind. To me, I am successful; I do not owe anybody and I have a clean heart and clean spirit. I am a happy man from the inside; that makes me very successful.
