Biography

Evandro Teixeira was born on December 25, 1935 in Irajuba, Bahia, Brazil. He is known for Instantes Cruzados (2018) and Evandro Teixeira - Instantâneos da Realidade (2003). He was married to Marly Caldas de Almeida. He died on November 4, 2024 in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In his almost 70-year career, he recorded notable events such as the 1964 military coup and the occupation of Copacabana Fort on April 1, 1964.

While still young, he took a distance learning photography course and, in 1957, arrived in Rio de Janeiro with a letter of recommendation to work at Diário da Noite. Soon after, he was invited to join the Jornal do Brasil team, where he worked for 47 years , becoming a reference in photojournalism .

His photos, such as the one of the crowd of Rio de Janeiro residents at the 100,000 March in 1968, in Cinelândia, in downtown Rio, are striking examples of his work.
