She never married or had children as - in those days - only single women were allowed to work in state jobs.

In 1939 she was finally engaged in radio, in the male domain of "radio announcers". Getting started was made easier for her by the fact that many colleagues had been drafted into active service and there was a shortage of staff at radio. Stehle later became chief spokeswoman. In this role, she engaged and trained generations of moderators.

In 1939, she became Switzerland's first female newscaster.
