Hugh Williams

Biography

  • Hugh Williams has been editing since 1999. His latest documentary project, 'Trainwreck: Woodstock '99' (2022) for Raw, BBH and Netflix, enjoyed critical acclaim and a Netflix all-time top rating for a non-crime series.

He also cut 'Murder in Soho: Who killed Freddie Mills?' (2018) for the BBC, which won Best Single Documentary - RTS Southern Television Awards 2019.

The feature Documentary 'Avenging Evil' (2018) for Caravan and Global Road, World Premiered at the 2019 Miami Jewish Film Festival. And 'Holocaust: The Revenge Plot' (2019) was awarded an RTS Nomination - History.

He has also edited Drama for Film and Television including 'Hetty Feather' which received 2 BAFTA Children's Award Nominations for Best Drama, and 'The Head Hunter' which received 3 nominations at the British Independent Film Festival 2016, including Best Feature Film.

Background: After gaining a BA (Hons) in Media, he literally knocked on every media office door in Soho, London, before achieving his glamorous break - as a runner for one day of filming. That single day turned into an eight-year apprenticeship. He was encouraged to work in all roles of television production - researching, producing, directing and finally editing - which became his true passion. He believes these foundations make him better placed to appreciate the key role each department plays, and to contribute to the key elements of the collaborative filmmaking process. An inherent drive to scrutinize every cut in the edit, and the skills he utilizes cutting drama, help to elevate his Documentary films and ensure the stories shine.
