Karla Eduvia
Karla Eduvia is a writer, director, cinematographer and editor, whose work includes numerous music videos, spec commercials, award-winning short films, as well as two documentaries and a feature film.

Born in Brazil in 1969 to a well-respected family of professionals, Eduvia's mother was a lawyer and her father a business manager. She grew up in Brasilia, the country's capital, during the height of the Brazilian Democratic Movement. At age 12, Eduvia could be found marching the streets of Brasilia with the movement calling for the denouncement of the military dictatorship that was in place at the time.

It was during this pivotal point in Brazilian history that Eduvia's interest and love for music began to develop, and her taste tended toward English rock and punk bands like Sex Pistols, David Bowie and Joy Division.

In 1986 Eduvia moved to Rio De Janeiro where she formed her first band, Veneno Perfeito (translates in English to 'Perfect Poison') which made headlines when the media discovered the metal band was fronted by a "wild, pretty, skinny girl." Considered a revolutionary spirit on the Brazilian music scene, Eduvia broke the stereotype of the ultra-feminine Brazilian singers who were more typical of the era. During this time someone gifted the rebellious young rocker with a Nikon camera and Panasonic camcorder. It was while taking snapshots of the towns the band was touring and shooting home videos that Eduvia first discovered her cinematic eye.

In the 90s, feeling discontented with the continued rampant political corruption in Brazil, Eduvia decided to move to the United States in 1995. Basing herself in San Francisco, she put together an electronic band called U-core. It was while making a video for the band that her fascination with music videos would begin, and she immediately took up editing school.

In 2001, Eduvia decided to move to Europe, where the electronic music scene was more prevalent. She settled in Nice in the south of France, but after only a few short months of enjoying the French Riviera, the 9/11 attacks prompted Eduvia to go back to the U.S. to give support to her American friends. This time she went to Los Angeles.

Now a skilled editor as well as electronic music composer, Eduvia attended UCLA in 2002 to gain a greater grasp on filmmaking. She started making short films and shifting her focus away from performing and toward a new career. To her the stage had lost some of it's magic and behind the scenes had become the main attraction. Directors like David Lynch (Lost Highway), Christopher Nolan (Memento) and Dominic Sena (Kalifornia) shaped Eduvia's taste for suspense thrillers with a dose of violence.

Eduvia, they say, is something of a one woman show. For the past ten years she has been developing her filmmaking crafts and just recently completed her first feature film which she directed and shot. Always on the move, she is constantly building and expanding her directing portfolio. Creativity is a strong point for her, and she loves to juggle multiple projects in various stages at the same time.

In May 2011, Eduvia is now editing her first feature, writing her next feature and in pre-production on a new documentary.
