- Born in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico as Hugo and known simply as Miriam, she was a Mexican transgender model and TV personality, best known for the controversial reality dating show There's Something About Miriam (2004). She started her transition at 12 before finding work as a model. In 2004, she was the star of There's Something About Miriam, a show where six men competed for an opportunity to date her. The show brought her international recognition, but she was also widely criticized for hiding the fact that she was transgender from the men. In the later years of her life, she moved to New York City, where she was active in the ballroom scene as a member of House Xtravaganza. She was married to Daniel Cuervo. She died of suicide on February 5, 2019.
