For perhaps the first time in recorded history, a kid's toy, the hula-hoop, is spearheading an explosive subculture. Crossing cultural borders from South Central to South Africa, THE HOOPING LIFE chronicles the lives of a dozen “hoopers”, who overcome difficult circumstances to invigorate their communities. We follow the evolution of hooping to California where the performance artist Anah takes us on a journey into an uncharted landscape where an inner-city kid, a transgendered performance artist, an entrepreneurial academic and a Southern preacher all engage in THE HOOPING LIFE. Beyond the pure fascination of watching jaw-dropping moves, THE HOOPING LIFE is ultimately about taking the risk to follow your dreams, even if they involve something as surprising as a hula-hoop.
