John Banta is known for Heaven Is a Playground (1991). John has been married to Daniel O'Donnell since January 29, 2012.

He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Catholic University in Washington D.C. in 1982. He moved to New York City in 1986 where he kept a separate apartment and pursued theatrical roles and worked nights as a waiter. In 1992, he moved into Daniel's Morningside Heights' apartment.

On January 29, 2012, he and Daniel O'Donnell exchanged their vows at Gustavino's in New York City with 400 guests including Rosie O'Donnell; New York Governor Andrew Cuomo; Democrat assemblywoman from Ithaca, Barbara Lifton; soprano Ruth Ann Swenson; family and friends. Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New York, Judith S. Kaye performed the ceremony.

Son of Martha Banta and uncle of Henry Turner (born in 2006).
