Biography

  • Andrew Vilange (born Andrii Venislavskyi) is a Ukrainian filmmaker, director, composer, and actor. He was born in Ukraine to Karolina Venislavskaya and Fedir Venislavskyi, a professor and member of the Ukrainian parliament. Andrew was raised in the city of Kharkiv, where his early years shaped a strong sense of discipline, independence, and attention to detail that later became central to his artistic language.

After finishing school, he moved to Kyiv to study at the Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in theatre production with a focus on directing and acting. Later, Andrew continued his education in the United States, enrolling at The Los Angeles Film School, where he earned a bachelor's degree in film production with a focus on directing. He completed both institutions, while forming a creative foundation shaped simultaneously by Eastern European psychological storytelling and American cinematic structure.

Andrew's first independent project was The Andrew Vilange Show (2019-2021), a series that explored classic performance formats through a contemporary lens. While studying, he took part in the creation of more than twenty projects, including short films, documentaries, theatrical works, and digital releases. His early solo shorts - My Introduction (2022), Jobless (2022), and Shut Eye in the Past (2023) - established the thematic direction of his work: introspective narratives, restrained emotion, and an emphasis on inner conflict rather than spectacle. This path led to the expanded and crew-based production Shut Eye in the Past II (2023).

In 2024, Andrew directed the short documentary Ink and Inspiration, which drew attention to the Ukrainian war through a personal and human-centered perspective. Due to the safety of its subject, the film is not publicly available. Alongside directing, Andrew has worked as an actor and voice actor in several projects, including The Interrogation (2023), Ink and Inspiration (2024), Escape Room (2024), and The Tale of David Lynch (2024). In 2025, he contributed to the production The Devilman, while focusing primarily on completing his most ambitious project to date.

His graduate film Marked (2025), a 20-minute narrative work, became the largest and most complex project of his early career. The film reflects Andrew's ongoing interest in choice, identity, and personal responsibility, themes that continue to define his artistic voice.

Andrew Vilange's work is characterized by a blend of restrained visual aesthetics, psychologically driven storytelling, and carefully composed sound. His approach to directing prioritizes atmosphere, internal tension, and authenticity over excess. In addition to filmmaking, Andrew composes and performs original music for his projects, creating soundscapes designed to support emotion and narrative rather than dominate them.

While based in the United States, Andrew continues to develop new projects in both narrative and documentary formats, with a focus on work that speaks quietly but directly, aiming for lasting impact rather than immediacy.
