Angelica Quinonez(II)

Angélica Quiñonez is an Afro-Latina filmmaker from Ecuador, currently based in Los Angeles, California, and the founder of Afro Film Studios. She holds an MFA in Filmmaking from the New York Film Academy, where she cultivated her distinctive cinematic voice: poetic, political, and emotionally raw. Her films center on Afro-descendant, female-driven, and underrepresented stories, blending genres such as drama, sci-fi, magical realism, and biography. Her award-winning short Mother's Instinct (2024) screened at prestigious festivals, including the LA Shorts International Film Festival (Oscar & BAFTA qualifying), while her other works, such as Silent Witness, Faithless, and Unacceptable, continue to build her reputation as a bold storyteller. She is currently developing Cimarrones, a historical epic about communities in 17th-century Latin America, and La Tunda, an animated feature inspired by Afro-Pacific folklore. Through her company, Quiñonez continues to create films that celebrate identity, resistance, and resilience, while amplifying the voices of those who have long been silenced.
