Chief scientist at the Blue Origin spaceflight company, formerly principal investigator of the Mars Exploration Rover Mission. James A. Weeks Professor of Physical Sciences at Cornell University emeritus; he also received a B.A. and Ph.D. from Cornell, where he worked closely with Carl Sagan and was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
