Emily Maitlis was born on September 6, 1970 in Canada. She is an actress and producer, known for A Very Royal Scandal (2024), Crookhaven (2026) and Taking the Flak (2009). She is married to Mark Gwynne. They have two children.

Conducted the controversial BBC "Newsnight" interview with the UK's Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor over his liaison with American financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein (November 16, 2019).

Speaks French, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin Chinese.

Began her television work in the far east, working in China, Hong Kong, Phillipines and Cambodia on half hour documentary shows. She also worked for NBC and then moved to the UK to work with Channel 4, Sky News and BBC.
