Born in South Weymouth and raised in Belmont, Massachusetts, Allan Wilayto’s passion for storytelling was ignited early. The son of a resilient WWII veteran who used performance to boost morale in POW camps, Allan grew up immersed in mid-century television, cinema, and the evolution of Rock ‘n’ Roll. An adaptable and energetic youth, he balanced sports, academics, and school theater before graduating from Boston University. Following his studies during the tumultuous Vietnam War era, Allan embarked on extensive, adventurous travels across the Americas. He followed his Scottish girlfriend to Glasgow where they were married. Back in the USA, they raised three children, and Allan built a highly successful tech sales career at Cisco Systems during the 1990s internet boom.
After retiring to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Allan stepped back into the creative world, pursuing acting as a passionate second act. His natural, grounded talent was instantly recognized by acclaimed director Ava DuVernay , who handpicked Allan from a background pool on the set of her feature film, Origin (2023) . Promoted on the spot to a key narrative role opposite Academy Award nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Allan delivered a raw, heartbreaking performance in a single take that moved both the lead actress and audiences to tears. Spurred by this breakthrough, Allan has thrown himself into the craft, continuously training and honing his skills.
Now a frequent performer in the vibrant Savannah, Georgia and regional Southeast film scenes, he has brought his distinct New England work ethic and authentic life experience to over a dozen independent, festival, and student film productions. Known for his exceptional range in mature character roles, Allan's recent work spans from a lonely, stalked neighbor in the Soho Film Festival selection (1-800-He-Heals (2025)), to intense dramatic turns as a malicious, rideshare driver (As Hard As You Possibly Can), a volatile redneck (Love Thy Neighbor), an Alabama physician (The Removal), and an enigmatic cult leader (Wunder). He also supports local Indie projects as a Executive Producer Sherlock Holmes Vampire Slayer (2026), Red Light and others.
When not on set, Allan enjoys life on the coast with his Scottish wife, the very same one and their two dogs, Lucy and Brady. He enjoys visits with their three children and three rapidly growing grandchildren.
