Biography

Marko Cvejic, born on 1978 in Zrenjanin, Yugoslavia. Graduated in film directing at the Art Academy in Novi Sad. Founder of the independent production company Mandragora Film, which has produced most of his films. He has extensive experience in all areas of filmmaking. He believes that film is a medium that steals moments of reality and records them for eternity. Cvejic is especially interested in the syncretism between documentarism and fiction, which is very noticeable as the dominant characteristic of his work. Unburdened by language, space and national identity, his films present the broad cultural diversity of the Balkans. He deals with the topics that are not daily presented in the media, his heroes are often anti-heroes, marginals and social apostates. As a predominantly documentary filmmaker, he believes that social engagement is reflected in the author's ability to recognise the needs of the time in which he lives and to speak on behalf of a multitude of like-minded people who are unable to constantly point out social injustices through the language of moving images.
