Biography

Balkrishna Doshi was born on August 26, 1927 in Pune, India. He was an actor, known for OK Kanmani (2015), OK Jaanu (2017) and Louis Kahn: Silence and Light (1996). He was married to Kamala Parikh and Kamala Parikh. He died on January 24, 2023 in India.

Indian architect, city planner and author. Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

In 2018, he became the first Indian to be awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize in its 40-year history.

He studied architecture in Mumbai and worked under Le Corbusier, overseeing projects in Chandigarh and Ahmedabad. He was also influenced by the work of Louis Kahn. He founded his own practice in 1956, and lives and works in Ahmedabad.
