- Pope John XXIII was born on November 25, 1881 in Sotto il Monte, Bergamo, Italy. He was a writer, known for A Man Named John (1965), Pro Mundi Vita (1961) and Tu es Pierre (1959). He died on June 3, 1963 in Vatican City.

- When Pope John Paul II ordered John XXIII's remains exhumed from their initial resting place in the catacombs below St. Peter's Basilica in March 2001, the face and body were found to be perfectly preserved despite almost 40 years of internment.
