Caused public outrage in 1957 for writing that Queen Elizabeth was cut off from her subjects by her "tweedy" courtiers, whom he blamed for her speaking style, which he called "a pain in the neck", and for her coming across in public as "a priggish school girl". Henry Cooper challenged Grigg to a boxing match. Grigg was slapped in the face by Philip Burbage, a member of the League of Empire Loyalists, as Grigg left ITV Studios after defending himself in an interview. Burbage was later found guilty, and fined a pound for the assault. Grigg refused to withdraw his remarks; the letters he received began to change until they were three to one in his favor.
