Amy Winter

Biography

Amy Winter

Mini bio

  • Amy Winter is Executive Vice President, Head of Programming, Lifetime. In this role, Winter oversees the development, creation and execution of all programming (movies, scripted and unscripted) for both Lifetime and LMN® networks. A multiplatform brand and content strategist, Winter has experience guiding cable networks to new heights: lifting ratings, reenergizing content and reimagining brand identities.

Before joining Lifetime, Winter most recently served as EVP and General Manager at UPtv, where she guided the network's brand and content, programming and communications. Under Winter's leadership, the network shifted focus to uplifting content and franchised movies which led to record ratings and revenue for the network, along with a drop of nearly a decade in median age.

Previously, Winter was with Discovery Communications from 2005 to 2013, where she most recently served as EVP/General Manager of TLC, after holding ascending roles in Marketing and Creative/Operations. In 2013, Winter led TLC to a record 32 series averaging one million P2+ viewers or more, 11 of which were freshman series she greenlit, including titles like Long Island Medium, Breaking Amish and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Under her leadership, TLC was a top 10 cable network for women and solidified itself as a distinctive brand featuring buzzworthy programming. Winter also received an Emmy® nomination as an executive producer of Who Do You Think You Are? As SVP of Marketing, Creative/Operations, Winter contributed to the network's record numbers for Jon & Kate Plus 8 and 19 Kids and Counting, while launching successful new series Cake Boss, Sister Wives, The Little Couple, Extreme Couponing and Sarah Palin's Alaska. During this era, she also masterminded the strategy in which TLC became the first cable network to effectively market an all-new, all season-long summer approach. In an earlier role as Vice President of Creative, Winter led the charge for TLC's rebrand, taking the channel from its Learning Channel roots into its lifestyle focus under the tagline "Live and Learn." During this era, TLC experienced unprecedented growth in ratings with hit shows including Miami Ink, LA Ink and Little People, Big World.

Winter began her career as a freelance promotion producer at TBS in 1994, where she stayed until 2005, eventually becoming Vice President/Creative Director of on-air promotion. She led creative direction for all on-air marketing initiatives, played an instrumental role in the network's "Very Funny" rebranding and created the successful "Movie & a Makeover"-branded entertainment franchise.

Winter was named the WICT Southeast Woman of the Year in 2016. She's also been chosen as a Multichannel News Woman to Watch as well as a Cablefax 100 and Cablefax Most Powerful Women honoree for multiple years.

Winter is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame.
