Third generation racer.

The first of only two riders to win back-to-back titles on different machinery. Won with on a Yamaha in 1988 and again on a Honda in 1989. The other being Valentino Rossi who did it in 2003 with the Repsol Honda RC211V then again in 2004 with the Gauloises Yamaha YZR M1.

1984 AMA Pro Athlete of the Year.

Inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999.

13th motorcycle racer to be inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame 2002.

Brief career in Indy Car racing.

In commemoration of its 1981 AMA Superbike championship, Kawasaki built a very limited number of special Eddie Lawson Replicas KZ1000Rs.

1983 team-mate "King" Kenny Roberts.

Won the prestigious Suzuka Eight Hour race in Japan in 1990 with team-mate Tadahiko Taira.

Retired from GP racing after the 1992 season.

Was considered to be part of the "Golden Era" of motorcycling racing, the late 80s and the early 90s which included Wayne Gardner, Kevin Schwantz, Mick Doohan, and Wayne Rainey. All of them had great skills which made for some vary memorable moments.

Now enjoys retirement living in Lake Havasu, Arizona, racing shifter go-karts with friend and fellow Hall of Famer Wayne Rainey. (2005)
