Biography

Satpal Varma was born in 1942 in the Punjab Region of British India. He is best known for being the co-producer of Insaaniyat (1974) and Oonch Neech Beech (1989). He was married to Nina Varma. He died in 2004 in Mumbai, India.

Satpal is a part of the Varma family, which includes members that have had careers in the Bollywood industry as producers, distributors, actors, film directors, writers and film editors. The Varma family began working in the film industry in the late 1940s and continues into the 2020s; the family has had a staying power that has extended to more than seven decades.

As the son of Bhagwan Das Varma, one of the founders of Varma Films and a patriarch of the Varma family, Satpal is a biological descendant of the Varma family.

In 1954, father Bhagwan Das Varma married actress Purnima, who is the grandmother of Bollywood's successful actor Emraan Hashmi. Purnima's son from her first marriage, Anwar Hashmi, is Emraan's father, making Bhagwan Das Varma Emraan Hashmi's step grandfather.
