On May 3, 2016, a new complaint was received from a third victim, a resident of Meulebeke. A confrontation took place in Brussels on January 25, 2017, during which the former bishop denied having any contact with this individual. His lawyer, Joris Van Cauter, dismissed the complainant as a "fantasist." Another new complaint emerged in early 2017. A 57-year-old man alleged that, between 1970 and 1972—while serving as an altar boy—he had been repeatedly sexually abused by the parish priest and by Vangheluwe in Bavikhove, near Harelbeke. Nothing further was heard regarding this matter either. In this instance, too, Vangheluwe had his lawyer, Van Cauter, issue a denial; the lawyer characterized the complaint as "slander and defamation.".
