Lowman Pauling was born on July 14, 1926 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA. Lowman was married to Ellise Maye. Lowman died on December 26, 1973 in New York, New York, USA.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2015).

Sang with his brother, Clarence Paul, in the Winston-Salem gospel group, The Royal Sons, that would later become the famed 5 Royales R&B quintet of the 1950s.
