Leonardo Tovani

Leonardo Tovani is a Brazilian filmmaker from Osasco, São Paulo. He graduated in Directing at the Academia Internacional de Cinema, and in Directing and Producing through a Warner Brothers Studio program at the University of Southern California, receiving a full scholarship after winning Best Student Film with his short A Vida em Pauta (2020) at the FACIUNI Festival. He wrote, directed, and edited the shorts A Broken Drumstick Makes Two (2023) and The Playmaker (2023) in Los Angeles, United States. He also edited the award-winning shorts Estática (2022) by Gabriela Queiroz and Barata (2023) by Amen Musbah. His most recent work, the short film Schrödinger (2023), was awarded Best National Fiction Short at Expocom Nacional 2024, Best Short at Intercom Sudeste, and Best Cinematography at the Tainha Dourada Festival. During the 78th Cannes Film Festival, he received the "Best Cannes Diaries" award. As a scholarship holder in Madrid, Spain, he co-directed and edited the documentaries Esgrima: El Ligazón entre el Arte y la Destreza (2025) and Un Eco en la Antártica: Shackleton (2025).
