Biography

Paula Tiberius is a screenwriter, director, songwriter and musician. Her screenplays have been featured on Netflix, Hallmark, Lifetime, UPtv, INSP, CityTV, CBC and GAC including many TV movies and two TV series for Brain Power Studios. Her directorial feature debut Goldirocks (2004) is a story about a young woman who truly finds her power when she picks up a guitar. Shelter Song is Paula's upcoming feature film about a musician in Los Angeles who takes bold personal and creative risks during uncertain times. Paula has several features and television series in development.

Raised by two artist scholars, Paula was taught from a young age to question authority, value craft and live with purpose. She fell in love with punk rock and the Detroit rock sound in high school, an aesthetic that grounds her 'be who you are' philosophy and fuels her passion for supporting the underdog. Paula learned to make films at the University of Toronto's Hart House Film Board and the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) where she edited her first three short films (Busk, Killing Time & Oxanna) on an Intercine flatbed machine the old school way - cutting film strips and taping them back together.

Paula writes and records music with her husband Richard Duguay at their home studio in Los Angeles, and directed multi-part music video campaigns for his albums Beautiful Decline (2023) and Second Prize (2025) with co-director and cinematographer Tom Hejda. Paula's children's album Be Who You Are (2015) encourages young people to make art and question everything.
