Duke was a 4th year surgery student at Parkland Hospital in Dallas on the day that President John F. Kennedy was assasinated. Duke could tell it was futile assisting the doctors working on Kennedy so he turned his attentions to the man across the hall who also had a bullet wound. That man turned out to be Texas governor John Connally.
