Biography

María Mendiola was born on April 4, 1952 in Madrid, Spain. She was an actress, known for La comedia musical española (1985), Baccara: Yes Sir, I Can Boogie (1977) and Baccara: Sorry, I'm a Lady (1977). She died on September 11, 2021 in Madrid, Spain.

She and Mayte Mateos formed the pop vocal duo Baccara in 1977, when they were flamenco dancers entertaining tourists on the island of Fuerteventura. A record-company executive signed them to RCA Records in the UK, and had them record Yes Sir, I Can Boogie as their first single. The disco hit topped the charts in 10 European countries, including the UK. Their follow-up single, Sorry I'm a Lady, was a top-10 hit in 1978.
