Carlos Alberto Torres was born on 17 July 1944 in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was married to Sueli. He died on 25 October 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
He captained the Brazil national team to victory in the 1970 World Cup, scoring the fourth goal in the final, considered one of the greatest goals in the history of the tournamen.
