Selected by the New York Mets in the 2nd round of the 1987 amateur draft. Played for the Mets (1990-1998), Los Angeles Dodgers (1999-2000; 2003-2004), and Chicago Cubs (2001-2002). His father Randy played for the San Francisco Giants (1964-1965), Chicago Cubs (1966-1973; 1976-1977), Minnesota Twins (1974), and San Diego Padres (1975).
