April 8, 1975 · Des Plaines, Illinois, USA

Mini bio

  • Declan Ryan's career began in the early 2000's in his home town of Chicago. He field produced episodic documentaries for WTTW, the Travel Channel, and Fox, and shot two successful auto racing docs, Four Bangers and Trailer Racer.

Following that, Ryan's career brought him to New Orleans, where he worked his way up through the film business on big budget Hollywood films and local indie favorites.

After witnessing the wake of Katrina's destruction, Ryan gathered up his gear, enlisted investors, and produced his documentary Hellp in 2006. Ryan's directorial debut came that same year with Ulbert, an award-winning documentary on bipolar disorder. It later became a standard for education in institutions across the globe. From 2008 until 2010 Declan produced and shot John Richie's Shell Shocked, a hit documentary about New Orleans' youth and gun violence.

His most recent work involves bringing two feature films, Paranormal Abduction and Open Tables to worldwide digital audiences in 2016. He is starting 2017 strong after co-producing and obtaining distribution for a food documentary called 42 Grams, and getting involved producing several exciting narrative projects.
