John Eric Williams was born in 1960 and raised in Northern California.
He began composing music around the age of 6. With an upbringing that
always included music, he played piano, violin, saxophone and baritone
bugle through grade school, then studied music theory in college while
performing in night clubs with an 80s rock and roll band as a
keyboardist, arranger and vocalist.
John spent three years in his late teens, touring the U.S. with a Drum and Bugle Corps, which involved the highest degree of musical presentation, high precision and dramatic effect. Anyone familiar with the Drum Corps experience knows the impact of touring the US with at least 100 other individuals and extreme pains, pleasures and inspirations that can occur from this experience.
After spending a few years working as Techy in an "8 to 5" job while raising a family (maintaining a strong job, marriage and mortgage), John was inspired by his kids to attend acting classes with them (originally to be the cool Dad willing to build the sets for their high school plays). The acting classes evolved into the pursuit of a midlife acting / modeling career, auditioning, playing bit parts, etc. His kids no longer thought he was cool, and eventually grew up and moved out.
Working on sets with filmmakers, directors and editors lead to film productions, and editing. Because of the musical background, John found himself composing music for independent film and video projects.
He soon felt the need to engage in non-linear video/film editing after determining the dependencies between composers and film editors during the post production process (basically, a control thing).
Today, John's primary focus is on film scoring. He has a home recording & editing studio and composes music using a variety of digital, analogue and orchestral resources. He continues to compose music and his interest in acting and directing.
