Biography

Sam Di Vito

Biography

  • Sam Di Vito, born in 1997, is graduated from the R.Cottini State Art School in Turin and graduated in Art Graphics from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. He was Marco Isidori's assistant for the "MarcidoMarcidorjseFamosaMimosa" theater company in Turin. After a series of self-productions for academic short films (including the thesis project), he made the cartoon "L'appprendista Pulcinella" for the Vincenzo Agnesi Foundation and the Creo award for the Blender Italia Association. His thought moves between absurd, surreal, grotesque, horrid and disturbing, wanting to aim at transgression as a provocation to create dismay in the viewer, a practice that amuses him a lot. The directors who have contributed to the formation of his artistic personality are: Tim Burton, Guillermo Del Toro, David Lynch, Christopher Nolan. Trained as a cartoonist and "cover artist" he has studied the world of comics, visions and narrative structures, always attracted by the dark figure of Batman and his psyche in the work "Arkham Asylum" by Dave McKean, he applies some of those themes, trying to get to the bottom of the psyche to bring back collective archetypes to which it can approach -potentially- all mankind. His creative method is based on psychic investigation: drown himself deep into the unconscious and giving freedom to the illuminations that emerge by means of psychic automatism.
