Slimkia, a mother of two, was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina to her mother, a customer service representative and father, an US Army veteran. She is the second daughter of 6 siblings. Slimkia is of Guyanese, and Puerto Rican-American descent.
Slimkia was raised in Decatur, Georgia by her grandparents Onita and Henry. Her love for rhyme and poetry began after hearing and seeing the late Maya Angelou's amazing ability to speak poetry with such affection. This inspired her to gravitate to her own style of poetry. She began to write lyrics as quickly as they flowed to her on any piece of paper, notebook or sticky note that was available. She recorded her first song at the age of 19 and has been recording since. Not only did she pursue her love of music, she has become an actress in multiple movies in the Augusta, Georgia area.
